Noseplugs Would Be Nice
Latest SLUDGE news: you now don't have to register your copy of the SLUDGE development kit to get at all its goodies! Version 1.7 comes with access to every single funky function as standard. That means it supports movie playback, scrolling scenes, parallax backgrounds, anti-aliased characters, light maps, proper recorded talky speech stuff, the whole bag.

SLUDGE has always been great. But now, it's also a programming language. SLUDGE (standing for Scripting Language for Unhindered Development of a Gaming Environment) is a system by which anyone (within reason) can make an adventure game. It runs in any recent version of Windows including XP, 98, 95 and NT and also, through the wonder of emulation, pretty darned well on Linux. It's high-res and uses 16-bit colour. For more information, see the FAQ.

Get Your Kit On
The SLUDGE development kit has been through a few incarnations now... and this is the most recent. It goes by the name of version 1.7 and it was born on December 30th 2006. It's the first version of the development kit which you don't need to register in order to use it all.

More SLUDGE Related Grababables
Do you want to make a SLUDGE game playable in multiple languages? Has someone dropped off $500,000 in a briefcase outside your home in return for you converting their precious game into some other tongue? You'll need this useful little number. Now with added searchy goodness!

sludge_transedit.exe - SLUDGE translation editor (with Windows installer) 87,517 bytes

Here you go then... one more file to download, should you want it. It's a syntax highlighting file for the wonderful EditPlus text editor. Yes, that means all the different words go different pretty colours, that's right.

The Little Engine That Could
Want to play SLUDGE games? Want to write 'em? In either case, you'll need this - the newest version of the SLUDGE engine. It comes complete with a small example data file and weighs in at just over 500,000 bytes. Not bad going, if I do say so myself.

sludge_engine_v16.exe - SLUDGE engine package v1.6 (with Windows installer) 503,837 bytes

You'll need more than just the engine, though - whether you're a developer or not. If you want to create games, you'll also need to download the development kit... on the other hand, if you want to play games you'll need er, well, some games. Oh yeah... and here are a few pre-compiled examples so you can see what the engine can do.
